I wanted to make a pair of pants for Xavier, to go with the cardigan I am making him. After holding it up against a variety of colors, I got the idea to make a pair of nantucket reds. If you're not familiar, it's East coast, nautical preppy.
I found some tomato-red cotton, and slowly bleached it until it had a faded look, then I made a hot spice bath of browns and oranges to give it a slight salmon color.
Using a pair of his jeans to help, I created a muslin pattern. I make patterns for a living, so this was fun to do a pint-sized version.

For the most part we just don't ponder the origin of commonplace expressions because they are... common. The first thing I discovered when beginning to read this little gem of a book, was not only hadn't I considered where many common sayings come from, but my preconceived idea of their origin was actually wrong! Kinda embarrassing, but guessing I may not be alone in this. I thought it would be of value then to share some tidbits from this book.
