A customer wanted a new basket liner to match her decor. This is how I made it:
1. Measure bottom of basket. Add 1 inch to each length x width measurement. Cut rectangle out of fabric.
2. Measure around entire basket. Add 1 inch to that number. Measure height of basket. Add 3.5" to that number. Cut out piece of fabric to correspond with those numbers. Stitch ends together, forming a closed loop.
3. Sew basket side piece to bottom piece, clipping and pivoting at corners.
At top, turn over 1/4", then turn again 1". Press and sew seam. Press again.
That's it! Place into basket, flipping edge over about 2".

For the most part we just don't ponder the origin of commonplace expressions because they are... common. The first thing I discovered when beginning to read this little gem of a book, was not only hadn't I considered where many common sayings come from, but my preconceived idea of their origin was actually wrong! Kinda embarrassing, but guessing I may not be alone in this. I thought it would be of value then to share some tidbits from this book.
