Today was fun, and not as stressful as some of my previous parties, as there was just the 5 of us(plus a little one). It's always good to do as much prep as possible the day before.
I ended up making two sandwiches and quiche muffins. Smoked salmon, slices cucumbers and cream cheese on pumpernickel bread. The cucumbers (should be sliced thinly, a mandolin is best) and cream cheese complement the strong-tasting salmon, while the pumpernickel bread's flavor is strong enough to rival it. The quiche muffins were easy enough, as I did most of the prep before. I mixed the ingredients together just before baking, then whisked rhe eggs and poured them into the filled tins. The only thing I didn't like was the skin they devolop from the tins. I think I'll buy a cast iron muffin tray, in hopes that the skin will come out nicer.
The third sandwich was a Ribbon sandwich, very colorful and delicious. These definitely took the longest to make, as the carrots had to be stamed then mashed, beets mashed, and I had to make pesto for the third filling. And each slice of bread between the fillings had to be spread with butter.

For the most part we just don't ponder the origin of commonplace expressions because they are... common. The first thing I discovered when beginning to read this little gem of a book, was not only hadn't I considered where many common sayings come from, but my preconceived idea of their origin was actually wrong! Kinda embarrassing, but guessing I may not be alone in this. I thought it would be of value then to share some tidbits from this book. Audio format is nice, as you can multitask while listening to this. This is my first attempt at recording reading a book, so any constructive criticism is welcome!
