With the extended indian summer we are having, there's a beautiful fall crop of stinging nettles. These grow wild, and are yummy and nutritious. They have a nutty flavor and smell, and can be used like spinach in cooking.
They are a bit tedious to pick and prep, as I pick them one-by-one with needle nose pliers, and need to be blanched to break down the ouchy needles, which contain an oil irritating to skin.
I'll preserve thse by making a version of my Farmer's muffins, which I haven't made in a while.

For the most part we just don't ponder the origin of commonplace expressions because they are... common. The first thing I discovered when beginning to read this little gem of a book, was not only hadn't I considered where many common sayings come from, but my preconceived idea of their origin was actually wrong! Kinda embarrassing, but guessing I may not be alone in this. I thought it would be of value then to share some tidbits from this book.
